Aida - la mascotte di ESN Macerata

 

ITA:  Lei è Aida, ed è la mascotte di ESN Macerata.
E' nata nel 2012 grazie alla fantasia di Genni Mandò, nostra socia.
Aida è una piccola lumaca, come quella della fontana di Piazza Mazzini che è tanto amata dagli Erasmus. Ha un guscio molto particolare, quasi futurista. E' la celeberrima "Sfera" di Umberto Peschi, scultore maceratese, aderente al Gruppo Boccioni.
Si, proprio quella sfera che si trova nei pressi dello Sferisterio, in Piazza Nazario Sauro.
E perché questo nome così particolare? Beh, abitando vicino lo Sferisterio ed essendo a contatto con mille culture, Aida non può che non chiamarsi col nome di una principessa etiope, protagonista di una delle principali opere liriche di Giuseppe Verdi, nonchè la prima opera rappresentata allo Sferisterio.

She was born in 2012 thanks to, our partner, Genni Mandò’s imagination. Aida is a little snail, just like the one that is so loved by Erasmus students on Piazza Mazzini’s fountain. She has a peculiar shell, almost futuristic, that is actually the super famous “Sfera” by Umberto Peschi. Yes, the actual sphere monument on Piazza Nazario Sauro, near the Sferisterio.
As a matter of fact, Peschi was a sculptor from Macerata, member of the “Gruppo Boccioni”, the futuristic movement based in Macerata.

Now you will be wondering: “why an unusual name such as Aida?”
Well, living next to the Sferisterio and being in contact with thousands of cultures, Aida could just take the name after the Ethiopian princess that is none other than the protagonist of the first opera ever represented in the Sferisterio, one of the most known Giuseppe Verdi’s pieces of art.
